About the Adventure
This 11-day trip takes you through three completely different sides of the country: the vibrant streets of Rio de Janeiro, the car-free island paradise of Ilha Grande, and the otherworldly dunes and lagoons of Lençóis Maranhenses National Park, a place most people have never even heard of.
We start in Rio with the classics done right. Christ the Redeemer, Sugarloaf, the Selarón Steps, a night out in Lapa with live samba echoing off century-old walls, and a hike up Morro Dois Irmãos for iconic views of the city.From there we head to Ilha Grande, a jungle-covered island with no cars, no crowds, and some of the most beautiful water in the Western Hemisphere. We spend three days hiking through Atlantic Forest, snorkeling in hidden bays, and making our way to Lopes Mendes Beach. Then comes the part of the trip that will genuinely stop people in their tracks. Lençóis Maranhenses is a national park in the remote northeast of Brazil where white sand dunes stretch as far as you can see, interrupted only by clear freshwater lagoons that fill seasonally with rainwater. It looks like nothing else on Earth. We explore it entirely by private 4x4 with a local guide, just our group.
This is Brazil the way most people never get to experience it: thoughtfully put together and completely off the beaten path.

DAY # 1
Arrival in Rio and transfer to hotel (D)
Arrive in Rio, get transferred to your hotel, and let the city find you. Tonight kicks off with a traditional Brazilian churrascaria followed by a night out in Lapa at the iconic Rio Scenarium.

DAY # 2
Rio Exploration Day (B, L)
A full day taking on Rio's most iconic landmarks from the top of Christ the Redeemer to the summit of Sugarloaf, with the color and energy of the city in between.

Private transfer to the coast and a boat ride out to Ilha Grande, one of Brazil's most beautiful car-free islands. Arrive, settle in, and spend the afternoon at your own pace.

Lagoa Azul Schooner Tour (B, L)
A full day on the water exploring the crystal-clear bays of Ilha Grande by schooner with a private local guide.

Back to the mainland with a different lens on Rio. This afternoon combines one of the city's best urban hikes with a walk through the authentic hillside neighborhood of Vidigal.

Travel is one of those things that naturally gives rise to queries, so we’re here to put your mind at ease. Which trip is right for me? What do I do about visas? How much do I tip? For questions frequent and otherwise, this is the spot.
Do I Need a Passport?
YES. The second you consider a trip with us, please check to ensure your passport is up to date and does not expire up to 6 months after the trip. At the moment, all of our trips are international. However, if we choose to do a
domestic one you would not need a passport but would need the REAL ID come 2025. In general, this is something you should consider getting soon to assist with your travel needs next year
Will I need a Visa?
Yes, we will need visas for this Brazil trip. This will be extra cost but we will help you obtain these as the necessary time and alert you when it is time.
Do I need to buy Travel Insurance?
Travel insurance is not included in our trip package. While it is not mandatory to join our trips, it is highly recommended. Travel insurance can cover various aspects of your journey, and there are many types and options available. We are happy to assist you in finding the right insurance that suits your needs before the trip.
Are flights included?
There is a domestic flight included in this trip.
Flights are not included in our trip packages. However, we are happy to assist you in finding and choosing the best flight options for each trip. Please keep in mind that we recommend purchasing flight insurance for added
peace of mind.

Are transfers to and from the airport included?
Yes, transfers to and from the airport upon arrival and departure are included in our trips. Please note, that if you arrive or depart outside of the scheduled trip dates, we can arrange transfers for an additional fee.
I have special dietary requirements – will they be catered for?
We are dedicated to accommodating special dietary requirements as best as we can. Please inform us of your specific needs in advance, and we will make every effort to ensure you are properly catered for throughout the trip. Please note that the ability to accommodate dietary restrictions may vary by location. We are knowledgeable of the areas we visit though, and will inform you if your specific needs cannot be met.
How do you arrange room sharing on the trip and who will I have to share with?
We arrange rooms based on your preferences. Often, friends and partners sign up together and request to share a room. Alternatively, solo travelers sometimes express a desire to share, and we assist in pairing them up.
On this trip, there is the option to have a $480 solo room up charge just for the 5 night hotel stays.
We will have 4-nights in cozy mountain huts with comfortable beds but we may be in dormitory styles. This depends on availability when booking.
If I am traveling with a significant other or friend, how do I ensure we are put in the same room?
When you sign up for the trip, please specify the person you wish to room with.
We will ensure that you are placed together in the same room automatically.
Are there options for single rooms if I don’t want to share?
Yes, single rooms are available on our trips. There is an additional fee for solo
rooms, which varies by country. We will inform you of this fee when you sign up.
When is the final due date for my trip?
We typically offer payment for our trips in 2-3 installments. The initial deposit is
deducted from the total trip price. The final payment is due typically between 35
to 60 days prior to the start of the trip. The exact deadline depends on the country
and payment schedule requirements.
